BASF to Sponsor Annual Ridler’s Ball

BASF has announced that it will be a bronze sponsor of the annual Ridler’s Ball, scheduled to take place at the 2013 Detroit Autorama on Friday, March 8, at Cobo Center in Detroit.

This year, the Ridler’s Ball will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ridler Award, one of the custom car industry’s biggest awards. The latest Circle of Champions honorees will be inducted, including Chip Foose of Foose Design. In addition, the Pirelli “Great 8” Ridler Award finalists for 2013 will be announced and past winners will be recognized.

“BASF has been a supporter of the Detroit Autorama for many years, and we are looking forward to helping honor Chip Foose,” said Vitor Margaronis, marketing director of the North American Coatings Solutions Business at BASF. “Chip is one of the best-known car designers and builders in the world, and BASF is very pleased he is an ambassador for our Glasurit brand.”

BASF has had paint from its Glasurit 90-line featured on six of the past 11 Ridler Award winners, including last year’s winning 1955 Ford Thunderbird. Designed by Jonathon Peace and built by Torq’d Design Lab and Greening Auto Company, the award-winning car featured Glasurit 90-Line Brilliant Red.

Held annually in March, the Detroit Autorama is the largest indoor custom car show in the U.S. The Ridler Award is named after Don Ridler, who started promoting Autorama in the 1950s, and it has presented to the "best" new creations since 1964, as determined by a panel of judges. Cars must be shown for the first time at the event to be eligible for the award.
