Matrix System Automotive Finishes announced that it’s one of the first automotive paint manufacturers in the U.S. to equip its facilities and develop water-based paint in its own backyard Michigan.
Matrix System, which launched its Aqualution waterborne line to the California market in April 2008, said increased demand for its waterborne product warranted the building of an additional 3,200-square-foot Aqualution production facility in Commerce Twp., Mich. The facility also includes new spray and testing equipment to segregate the waterborne technology from the traditional solventborne system.
This newly remodeled production facility will include 25 new stainless steel small-batch processing vessels and equipment to produce more than 60,000 gallons of product a year as part of the initial process.
The area can be expanded to double its capacity as sales increase on the Aqualution line, Matrix says. The plant has also installed a de-ionized water system with UV lighting to process Great Lakes water for use in this product. Additionally, state-of-the-art processing pumps and filtration will be used to assure the quality of the product.
Matrix plans to release the Aqualution line nationally at the end of this spring.
“Matrix System is extremely excited and honored to be one of only a few manufacturers to produce an environmentally friendly water based toner system for the automotive aftermarket here in the United States,” said John Czarnik, operations plant manager. “We strongly feel that this will give Matrix System a huge advantage in offering our customers a technologically advanced product that is eco-safe.”
