Airbag inflator producer ARC Automotive Inc. announced that it has been selected to provide 1.5 million inflators for airbag passive safety restraint systems in new production passenger vehicles.
“ARC Automotive is pleased to build on our longstanding relationship with KSS to produce PH-7 hybrid inflators for the vehicle passive safety restraint systems,” said Ali El-Haj, President, ARC Automotive Inc. “The inflators will be in the vehicle safety systems in multiple new passenger models in North America, Europe and Asia.”
The PH-7 hybrid a compact passenger disk style inflator was extensively tested and was selected based on performance, reliability and the technology’s ability to be easily tailored by the OEM for regulating the generant, gas and orifice for a particular vehicle safety system, ARC says.
Production will begin in 2011 and continue through 2018.
ARC says the inflator offers performance flexibility and will be incorporated by KSS, a global supplier of advanced engineered safety products, into passenger side airbag modules fitted to a wide range of models from subcompact through family-sized vehicles.
ARC Automotive developed the hybrid inflator, which utilizes a smokeless gas generant to charge the airbag when deployed.
