PPG Industries will host Penske Racing and Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, at PPG Place on Wednesday. Hornish will greet fans and sign autographs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. He will be driving the following weekend in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway.
The event celebrates the 31-year relationship between PPG and Penske Racing. PPG’s automotive refinish business is Penske Corporation’s exclusive supplier of coatings for its racing, truck leasing and automotive collision repair subsidiaries and facilities.
During the July 28 event, the No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger will be displayed at PPG Place plaza in Pittsburgh, sporting a new paint scheme using environmentally responsible Envirobase High Performance waterborne paint from PPG’s refinish business. The design features decals for PPG’s automotive refinish business, for Olympic Paints and Stains, a brand of PPG’s architectural coatings business, and for Transitions Optical, a joint venture of PPG and Essilor that makes Transitions photochromic lenses. Also appearing at the event will be the No. 77 racecar hauler, the Penske merchandise unit and the PPG show truck.
The new No. 77 car paint design will make its racing debut on Aug. 1, when Hornish drives in the Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., where he earned a career-best fourth-place finish last year.
"We have a great relationship with PPG," said Roger Penske, founder and chairman of Penske Corporation. "Their quality products and services have benefited every aspect of our business. It is a true partnership that has been rewarding for all of us."
John Outcalt, PPG vice president, automotive refinish, said, "PPG is proud to have supported Penske’s remarkable success the past 31 years with increasingly innovative products and excellent support. Our organizations have worked together extremely well."
