ASA’s ‘How’s your Business?’ Survey Results Available Online

Results from the Automotive Service Association’s (ASA) “How’s Your Business?” (HYB) survey, in its 16th year of exploring the overall success and business practices of ASA member businesses, is now available online.

Denise Casperson, ASA collision division manager, wrote in the survey results that “the collision industry has not been immune to the effects of the economy over the past year” and noted that pressure from insurers and consumers alike to keep costs down, repair quality high and technology cutting-edge challenged repairers in 2008.

ASA says the annual HYB survey provides an analysis of the independent collision and mechanical repair industries and that the purpose of the survey is to provide an accurate benchmark for business owners and those interested in the industry based on feedback from ASA’s membership base.

In August, ASA mailed the survey to 800 randomly selected mechanical and 700 randomly selected collision repair businesses. Slightly more than 15 percent of mechanical and 10 percent of collision businesses replied, according to ASA, giving the results a combined 94 percent confidence level with a confidence interval of +/- 6.
