A 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Berlinetta sporting a PPG finish took three top awards at the 58th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, Calif., this August: “Best of Show,” “Best of Class” and “Most Elegant.” The Alfa Romeo, owned Jon and Mary Shirley of Medina, Wash., was restored by Dennison International Motorsports, Puyallup, Wash., and painted by Byers Custom & Restoration, Auburn, Wash. The 8C 2900B was Alfa Romeo’s most prestigious grand touring car of the 1930s, and only 33 were completed for road use.
Byers Custom & Restoration painted the car a deep navy blue using PPG’s Deltron basecoat/clearcoat to restore the finish to Concours d’Elegance caliber.
“Our customers want their classics to have the best, so we use PPG paint,” restorer Jon Byers said. “It’s user-friendly and outstanding for color accuracy.”
Byers has had at least one award-winner at Pebble Beach every year since 1996. He has used PPG coatings since 1983 and has attended a number of training sessions in color matching and custom painting.
