Keenan Director of Marketing Craig J Camacho announced the completion of Keenan Auto Body’s eighth annual Prom/DUI Awareness Campaign.
Keenan again teamed up with local high schools to deliver a very sobering message to students: Don’t drink and drive. Through a network of industry partners, Keenan donates a crashed vehicle to each high school, which includes a banner that briefly tells the story behind the vehicle and its driver’s demise.
“We don’t candy coat the issue," said Camacho. “We want the kids to see the reality of what can happen when they drink and drive, and to do this, we leave the vehicles in the same condition as they were immediately after the accident, this sometimes includes ripped clothing and blood."
Vehicles are put on display for students to see firsthand the results of such destructive decisions made by people the same age as who go to the high schools the vehicles were placed at. Thousands of teenagers die every year due to driving under the influence or by driving with someone who was, according to Keenan.
“If we can save just one life, it was worth it," said Camacho, who has three children, two of which are currently driving, and one a teenager who will be behind the wheel in a six months. “You teach your children to make the right decisions and life has a way of working in your favor, but you have no control over the bad decisions others may make, and as a parent that’s very scary.”
