OBITUARY: Ray Asbery, President of Equalizer

Auto Glass industry pioneer, legend and entrepenuer Ray Asbery, president of Equalizer in Round Rock, Texas, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 27 at his home. He had had back surgery seven weeks ago, and was undergoing a difficult recovery, glassBYTES reported.

Asbery worked for Globe Glass as an installer for a number of years, and left and went on to invent a number of innovative auto glass tools that changed the industry. He founded and grew Equalizer to become a worldwide auto glass tools and supply company. Asbery held more than 20 patents in 15 different countries.

He is survived by his wife Clare, and two children, Eric and Wendy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the Humane Society and to Smile Train.

“Ray loved the industry,” says Gilbert Gutierrez, vice president of sales at Equalizer. “He was a big part of it and he loved it. Smile Train has lost a big supporter in him.”
