Sterling Autobody Centers has begun using waterborne refinishing at its Allentown, Pa., location. Sterling announced a company-wide rollout to waterborne in October 2008. The company uses Sherwin-Williams AWX Waterborne basecoat.
Currently, California is the only state which mandates the use of the waterborne system. Sterling’s four California locations completed the transition earlier this year, and additional conversions will take place throughout 2009, the company says. The Allentown location is the first non-California store to use the waterborne process.
“The environmentally-sound decision to convert our locations from a solvent borne system to a waterborne system enables us to provide our customers with the highest quality of repairs, while still protecting the environment,” said Sterling President Nick Notte.
