Scuderi Auto Body CARSTAR Celebrates One Year Using BASF Waterborne Automotive Refinishing System

In January 2008, Scuderi Auto Body CARSTAR of Rockville, Md., converted its automotive refinishing systems from a solventborne paint to the Glasurit 90 Line waterborne system by BASF – The Chemical Company. The shop is celebrating the one-year anniversary of what it dubbed an "environmentally sound decision."

BASF says its Glasurit 90 Line waterborne paint system not only helps protect the environment, but also provides excellent durability and color match.

Scuderi’s ultimate goal is to help protect the environment by reducing hazardous waste and air pollution.

“We are repairing for today with tomorrow in mind,” said owner Chip Scuderi.

In 2003, Scuderi won the National Pollution Prevention award for the invention and implementation of the non-hazardous Bonny Marlin Paint Gun Cleaning System. The Bonny Marlin system eliminates the need for hazardous solvents for paint gun cleaning, while eliminating hazardous waste generation. Scuderi is one of the first auto body repair facilities in Montgomery County, Md., to offer eco-friendly collision repair.

BASF applauds Scuderi’s commitment to the environment.

“We view Scuderi as a true environmental leader in its industry,” said Darlene Eilenberger, BASF marketing director, North America.
