Shop Owner Makes Greased Lightning from Golf Cart

Most people wouldn’t consider Danny Zuko – the bad-boy lead character from the musical “Grease” – to be the golfing type, but that might change thanks to a customized golf cart made by a South Carolina shop owner.

Jeff Cannon, owner of Cannon Auto Body in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, made his version of Zuko’s car, Greased Lightning, out of a golf cart for a local theater group putting on a production of "Grease," the Tribune-Times reported.

Cannon said he stripped the cart down to its frame and created a custom body complete with suicide doors and rear fins to give the cart a 1950s muscle-car vibe. Custom upholstery accented with lightning bolts covers the cart’s seats, and the body is coated with maroon metallic paint accented with more lightning bolts.

Cannon said he built the cart, which he donated to the theater group, in his spare time, spending about $5,000. He had no idea what the finished cart would look like when he started the project.

“I just started thinking about what would look cool,” he said.

The cart will be raffled after the musical production wraps to benefit the city’s cultural arts program.
