A New Hampshire man washing his clothes at a laundromat has garnered nationwide attention not for having whiter whites, but for being caught on video as a minivan manned by a distracted driver crashed through the building, nearly hitting him, on June 19.
WHDH Channel 7 reported that John Osambo, who was doing his usual Saturday laundry, had to act quickly when he saw the minivan plowing into the building.
“I heard some loud noise. When I looked at it, the car was right next to me, and it was still coming, so I had to jump out of the way,” he told the TV station. “All that happens is you see a car coming at you, and you have to move.”
The van was driven by a Maine woman who had stopped to use her cell phone to call for directions. She had two children in the car.
Valle’s security camera caught the bizarre accident on film, and luckily, nobody was hurt during the crash. The video shows Osambo loading clothes into a machine near the front windows. Next, the van crashes through the windows, crushing a row of chairs and several machines, as Osambo bolts to seek help.
“She had her foot on the brake, and from what she told me, her foot slipped onto the gas. As she turned around, it went right through the building,” Pat Valle, the laundromat owner, told the TV station.
