Jeff Gordon’s No. 24 Chevrolet SS showcased Axalta Coating Systems’ Brilliant Flames paint scheme on Sunday, March 30 for the NASCAR Gas Booster 500 at Martinsville Speedway, home to Gordon’s 2013 win.
With eight Sprint Cup victories at the sport’s smallest track, Martinsville is, arguably, the best track for Gordon, according to Axalta. In a stretch of the last 22 races (since 2003), the four-time Sprint Cup Champion has earned 20 top 10 finishes; 17 top fives; and five wins at the “Paperclip.”
“We are very excited for this race in Martinsville,” Wade Robinson, Axalta’s strategic marketing and racing director, said before the race. “Jeff consistently performs well there. It is a tradition that the winner receives a grandfather clock at this race instead of a trophy, so we are hoping that the grandfather clock chimes a brilliant Axalta tune on Sunday.”
Gordon ended up finishing in 12th place.
