Bates Custom & Collision of Baytown and Channelview, Texas, was recently honored by the state of Texas with the Governor’s Volunteer Award for its ongoing community support and contributions to the Harris County Department of Education’s (HCDE) Head Start Centers.
Lee and Leila Bates received the award at a June 4 ceremony at the Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas. As avid supporters of the AkzoNobel Benevolence program, the Bates annually give two refurbished cars to single mothers who demonstrate qualities of growth through being actively involved and responsible parents at the Head Start Centers.
“The Bates are stellar community partners who are social innovators, and we’re blessed to have them as investors in education in Harris County,” said HCDE County Superintendent John E. Sawyer. “They give our Head Start mothers the support for a new life by rewarding them as responsible parents with these cars which were refurbished by their staff and the generous community at large.”
Tim Loden, director of marketing for AkzoNobel Car Refinish North America, said, “Lee and Leila Bates represent all that is right about the collision repair industry. They’re a strong family and hard workers who are always attempting to make their business and community better. We’re proud to have them as part of the AkzoNobel family.”
