The National Auto Body Council (NABC) 2008 Recycled Rides project is closing in on its target of making 100 simultaneous vehicle donations the week of Thanksgiving. Participating collision repair facilities have already committed to repair over 60 vehicles.
For the project, NABC members repair and donate recycled vehicles to families in need throughout the United States. In addition to collision repairers, insurers, car rental companies, paint suppliers, parts suppliers and material vendors also participate. This industry-wide event is open to all NABC shop members that want to participate.
"The shops have been terrific-they have a clear vision of what Recycled Rides is about and are truly motivated by to help those less fortunate," said Recycled Rides Shop Coordinator Troy Holm of Collision Services.
Recycled Rides Rideaway Day is scheduled to take place on Nov. 24. Because of the time needed to identify a charity, select a recipient, transfer the vehicle’s title and complete the repairs, shop participants must register for the program by Sept. 1.
Recycled Rides will "sneak preview" three vehicles on Nov. 7 at NACE. Those three vehicles will be donated through local charities to deserving families in the Las Vegas area.
