The National Auto Body Council (NABC) announced that the City of Las Vegas declared Nov. 6, 2009 to be National Auto Body Appreciation Day in recognition of the work the industry performs to provide safe, quality collision repairs to the public.
The declaration coincided with the donation of six recycled vehicles to families needing transportation as part of NABC’s Recycled Rides program. The vehicles were donated on the NACE show floor at Mandalay Bay with Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman in attendance. The mayor handed over the vehicles to the recipients, all graduates of Family Promise of Las Vegas, which helps financially challenged families achieve sustainable independence.
The mayor also read a proclamation honoring the collision repair industry recognizing the “challenging work” the industry performs.
Goodman originally proposed that the city honor the NABC after personally witnessing the work that went into the Las Vegas Recycled Rides program. However, NABC says that since it considers itself a reflection of the nature of the collision repair industry people helping people the proclamation’s emphasis was changed to recognize the industry as a whole.
“We appreciated the city and the mayor’s recognition and were humbled to accept the proclamation on behalf of the entire auto body industry,” NABC Executive Director Chuck Sulkala said. “Many people in our profession do many wonderful things for the benefit of others, and it makes us all proud to be able to celebrate and recognize these true heroes.”
