BASF Automotive Refinish Solutions announced that vehicles bearing its refinish paints were awarded the top two Mothers Awards at the 2010 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show.
Mothers manufactures high-performance car care products, such as polishes, waxes and cleaners. SEMA, the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world, was held in Las Vegas, Nev., from Nov. 2-5 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. With more than 100,000 industry leaders from more than 100 countries at the show, two vehicles in the BASF booth were selected for a prestigious Mothers award, among more than 1,500 cars on display at the show.
The Mothers Awards recognize the overall quality of the finish on a vehicle. The First Place Mothers Shine Award went to the 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback Dragon, with BASF’s R-M Diamont Dragon Blood as the paint color. The Second Place Mothers Choice Award went to the 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Mercedes-Bent, also bearing BASF’s Glasurit 90-Line in Elfebein.
“Having the top two vehicles recognized by Mothers in the BASF booth was truly an honor and quite thrilling for us,” said Chuck Soeder, vice president of BASF Automotive Refinish, North America.
The Shine Award trophy is a statue depicting a car detailer’s towel rendered in bronze and awarded to the winner of the annual Shine Award at SEMA. This “Best of Show” trophy was designed in 2001 by Hot Rod Hall of Fame inductee and car designer Chip Foose.
