New York Disabled Veteran to be Given ‘Recycled Ride’ in May

The National Auto Body Council (NABC) announced that Nanuet Collision Centers is once again participating in its nationwide vehicle gifting program, Recycled Rides, with a gift to a local disabled veteran. A “green” program, “Recycled Rides” recruits auto body shops, insurers, paint suppliers, and parts vendors to contribute in their own specific ways. The program has donated over 300 vehicles since its inception in 2007.

“Nanuet Collision Centers is committed to serving the local community. After the positive experience last year in gifting a vehicle to one of our local veterans, there was no question that we would participate again,” stated Kevin Muir, president of Nanuet Collision Centers. “Our staff and vendors were very eager to participate in this key initiative for the auto body industry.”

The Recycled Rides gifting event will take place on May 6 at 1 p.m. at Nanuet Collision Centers, 417 Route 59, Monsey, N.Y.

Thomas Kelly is the recipient of this year’s Recycled Ride. Kelly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam and is a very active member of Vietnam Veterans of America.

“Having a good working vehicle will help me and my family toward a more normal life,” he said.

Kelly has numerous family obligations, and having a reliable vehicle will provide a sense of relief that transportation will not be a barrier.

Kelly was selected as the recipient by the VFW Post 9215  in Upper Nyack, N.Y.

Commander Guy Gebbia stated, “It was a blessing to have an automobile donated to our VFW so we could help a fellow veteran. Having a local business like Nanuet Collision Centers step up and help one who served our country honorably is a tremendous commitment. The shop’s staff is putting a lot of effort and pride into refurbishing this vehicle; they should all be applauded.”

Allstate spokesperson Krista Conte of New York said, “Our participation in the Recycled Rides Program is an extension of Allstate’s commitment to our local communities. These cars represent more than a way to get around, but a way to empower families and charities to accomplish simple tasks impossible without reliable transportation.”
