Global Collision’s Colorado Springs facility recently teamed up with five other local businesses to donate a car to a military family through its Wheels4Heroes initiative.
Angelique Blake, a military wife with two children and a third on the way, was surprised with a refurbished Toyota Avalon and a Skype session with her husband, who is currently serving in Afghanistan. The donation was made possible through Global Collision’s partnership with Randy’s Towing, Glass America, Car Toys, Tire World and Larry Miller Toyota.
"I don’t know any of these people and for them to do this for a complete stranger is just amazing," said Blake shortly after receiving the car.
The Blake family was selected from numerous nominations on the body shop’s website and Facebook page because they had been using an unreliable car for transportation.
"We’re due to have this baby in two months and I [kept] thinking, ‘What if this car doesn’t start when I go into labor?" said Blake.
"The military community works hard for us," said Brent Snarr, Global Collision Colorado Spring’s production manager. "They dedicate their lives, and people don’t understand the struggles they have being in the military."
Global Collision also donated a Dodge minivan to the YoungLife organization last year, which supports at-risk youth. It plans to donate another vehicle through Wheels4Heroes in July.
