The Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS) elected a new board of directors at its 30th anniversary celebration and awards ceremony on April 24 at the Renaissance Hotel in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Incumbents Aaron Clark (Indiana), Bruce Halcro (Montana) and Steve Regan (Massachusetts) were re-elected by the membership. Domenic Brusco (Pennsylvania) was also elected to his first term as a national director for SCRS, replacing outgoing board member Joe Skurka (Michigan).
During the ceremony, the executive committee roster was announced including Aaron Clark (chairman), Ron Reichen (vice chairman), Luis Alonso (treasurer), Andy Dingman (secretary), Barry Dorn (immediate past chairman) and first-time executive committee member Rodes Brown (director at large).
“The stability and consistency of this year’s board is probably its defining characteristic,” said SCRS Chairman Aaron Clark. “We’ve built solid momentum together, and there is a very strong clarity of purpose amongst this board. While we embrace change, there’s something to be said about staying the course, especially when the results prove beneficial to the industry. I feel honored to continue to work with my fellow board members, and want to extend my sincere appreciation to Joe Skurka for his dedicated tenure serving our organization.”
Several past chairmen of SCRS were in attendance as well: Barry Dorn (2009-2011), Gary Wano (2008-2009), Farzam Afshar (2007-2008), Lou DiLisio (2003-2005), Joel Lofton (2002-2003), Gene Hamilton (2000-2001), Jeff Hendler (1993-1994), Rex Womble (1987-1988) and SCRS founding member Bill Wicklund (1985-1986). John Loftus, SCRS’s first and longest tenured executive director (1982-2000), was also on hand to participate in the proceedings.
“When SCRS began three decades ago, the approach was focused and direct, because they were the one national association whose sole mission was to represent the collision repair industry,” said SCRS Vice Chairman Ron Reichen. “We’re fortunate to follow in the footsteps of these legendary advocates, and it’s an honor to carry the torch they so boldly lit.”
The last few years have been busy ones for SCRS, marked by a number of successful grassroots initiatives from educational offerings such as Repairer Driven Education (RDE) at the SEMA Show; advocacy work on issues ranging from model legislation at NCOIL to rule assessments through the EPA; collaborative work stemming from strategic partnerships with other associations championing the adoption of industry recognized repair standards; and addressing the growing concern over data aggregation and the creation of programs such as the Database Enhancement Gateway (DEG).
“The SCRS Board serves as a bellwether for the entire organization in that they consistently demonstrate their unwavering support for the collision repair industry above any other interest,” said SCRS Executive Director Aaron Schulenburg. “It’s humbling to be in a room with a makeup of individuals who literally represent both the past 30 years and future 30 years of an organization, knowing that their passion and dedication to our mission resonates throughout the industry and their uniform persistence of vision holds true. I’m continually impressed by the character demonstrated by these men and women who volunteer in our organization to serve their industry at their own expense and with their own time. Congratulations to all; here’s to an upcoming productive year, and thank you for all that you do.”
