Matrix System Named EPA Energy Star Partner

Distinction recognizes brand's energy efficiency efforts.

Matrix System has been named an Energy Star Partner by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Green Garage Challenge. The distinction recognizes Matrix’s effort to help its distributors and end users increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

As an Energy Star Partner, the EPA recognizes Matrix’s comprehensive approach to energy and climate management, which includes public utility-feed tracking of electricity, gas, water and waste on a time-weighted basis.

"In these challenging economic times, our focus on energy efficiency and spray coating methods is generating real cost savings for our customers, while helping their communities preserve resources for the future," said Kelly R. Mack, marketing manager for Matrix System Automotive. "This recognition as a Green Garage Challenge affiliate underscores our commitment to our customers to help them help sustain the environment in the state of Arizona.”

Steven Schillinger, administrator of the Green Garage Challenge, said, "EPA has recognized Matrix for leadership in addressing global warming through greater energy efficiency and pollution prevention. While using Matrix System products can reduce a shop’s carbon footprint by more than 5 percent, including spray booth and lighting optimization methods can reduce the shop’s greenhouse gas emissions by an additional 30 percent.”

Matrix is committed to achieving energy efficiency targets and has set energy conservation goals for its distributors and customers. Energy Star portfolio statistics indicate that participating Green Garage Challenge shops will increase their energy efficiency by 10 percent in 2013, while reducing their public utilities usage by more than 20 percent.

Forty-eight percent of the nation’s energy, including 70 percent of its electricity, is consumed by buildings, says Schillinger. Collision shops, with their extensive lighting and spray coating operation, tend to devour energy. The EPA estimates that if automotive shops reduced their energy consumption by just 10 percent, they would save about $193 million in energy costs and cut more than 1 million tons of greenhouse gases each year.

"In these challenging economic times, our focus to our customers is generating real cost savings, while helping us establish sustainability, reduce our environmental impact and preserve resources for the future," said David Brunori, executive vice president.
