I-CAR Celebrates National Volunteer Week

I-CAR is thanking its more than 1,600 volunteers across the country during National Volunteer Week, the largest celebration of volunteerism all year.

“Volunteers play a vital role in helping I-CAR to bring relevant training to the collision repair industry," said Jeff Peevy, senior director of field operations and segment development. "They are the backbone of the organization and help keep I-CAR strong and healthy. On behalf of I-CAR, I would like to thank our volunteers for their exceptional contributions and dedication throughout the year.”

National Volunteer Week, which takes place April 21–27, 2013, began in 1974 when President Nixon signed an executive order establishing the week as an annual celebration of volunteering. Since then, every U.S. president has signed a proclamation promoting National Volunteer Week. Governors, mayors and other elected officials also make public statements and sign proclamations in support of the event.

“Undoubtedly, I-CAR Volunteers contribute significantly to the success of the collision repair inter-industry and to I-CAR," said John Van Alstyne, I-CAR president and CEO. "2012 was an outstanding year for our industry in terms of training, as nearly 200,000 students took I-CAR training. This is nearly double the level of training that I-CAR was doing as recent as 2009. And this success happened largely in part based on the ongoing efforts of our strong volunteer base.”

In 2013, more than 300 committees and 1,600 volunteers across the U.S. are working with I-CAR to serve the industry. I-CAR values the participation of its volunteers and provides opportunities to help familiarize volunteers with the Volunteer Training Series. This recorded webinar series is available for new and existing volunteers including four, one-hour modules with information about I-CAR, committee internal functions, committee external activities and committee officer roles.
