US Manufacturing Jobs Expected to be Harder to Fill Come 2025

Research notes while manufacturing is generally regarded as a rewarding career with competitive compensation, only 37 percent of parents would encourage their children to pursue a career in this field.

According to an article from Fast Company, manufacturing positions will be among the top five hardest jobs to fill in the year 2025.

The article cited a 2015 study from Deloitte that showed there will be a shortage of 2 million workers in the U.S. manufacturing sector by 2020, in jobs ranging from engineering to production. Part of the problem, the research noted, is that while manufacturing is generally regarded as a rewarding career with competitive compensation, only 37 percent of parents would encourage their children to pursue a career in this field. In addition, the article noted that Millennials ranked this career track as last in the seven categories they could choose from if given their choice of career paths today.
