The Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA) has released a statement indicating that the more than 21 million vehicles recalled in the first five months of 2014 are a reason to consider parts alternatives on the market, saying, "Consumers can rely on [our] certified parts due to their rigorous validation process and standards."
“As the car makers roll to a recordbreaking number of recalls, they continue to spend millions of dollars touting the fact that their expensive, car company brand crash parts are the only ones consumers can rely on,” said Jack Gillis, executive director of CAPA.
CAPA says its standards are validated by third-party, internationally recognized independent validator Intertek, and those standards are available to the public.
“Full transparency, legitimacy and effectiveness are the hallmarks of the CAPA program, and as a consumer advocate, I wouldn’t have it any other way,” said Gillis. “As crash repair costs continue to rise, never before has it been more important that shops, insurers and consumers have high quality, fairly priced alternatives to expensive car company brand parts. That’s what CAPA is all about.”
