CAPA Names Mike Schoonover to Board

Third-generation owner of Schoonover Bodyworks and Glass takes position previously occupied by Bob Anderson.

The Certified Automotive Parts Association (CAPA) has elected Mike Schoonover of Schoonover Bodyworks Inc. in St. Paul, Minn., to its board. He takes the position previously occupied by Bob Anderson.

“Mike Schoonover is a long-standing and respected leader in the collision repair industry, and we are excited to have him join CAPA’s efforts to ensure that the market has truly high quality alternative parts,” said Jack Gillis, CAPA’s executive director. “Mike has been a valuable resource as CAPA’s Technical Committee chairman and we know he will be a valuable asset to the board as CAPA continues to expand on its diversity of standards and growth in part availability.”

Schoonover is a third-generation family business owner of Schoonover Bodyworks and Glass, which was started by his grandfather, Chuck Schoonover in 1938. Throughout his youth, he worked at his dad’s shop by cleaning cars and sweeping floors. After attending the University of Minnesota-Duluth, he returned to the business full time, working in sales, marketing and management.

Throughout his more than 25 years at Schoonover Bodyworks, Schoonover has received industry training though 3M ARMS, Sikkens ACOAT Select workshops, AMI classes and I-CAR. He has served on various boards and committees, including ASA Collision Division Operations committee and insurance sub-committees, AASP-MN’s Collision Committee and Board of Directors, CAPA’s Technical Committee, I- CAR’s International Board of Directors and the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce.

“Mike brings an extraordinary amount of ‘hands-on’ knowledge of the repair industry to CAPA’s board," said Clark Plucinski, president of CAPA’s Board of Directors. "We are thrilled to have Mike join CAPA."
