ASA-Midwest has announced the launch of a brand-new Student Membership Program. The organization says the goal of the initiative is to prepare and equip students with the skills and resources necessary for the transition into the automotive service profession while introducing them to training opportunities and success strategies.
"By giving students the opportunity to be involved in ASA as they are just beginning in their career is a great way to help prepare these new technicians by helping them understand what is expected of them and also having access to additional training," said Ken Jefferson, automotive technology program chair at Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Neb. "It also can help them begin building contacts and a support for their chosen field."
The program, which launched Oct. 1, offers students access to local monthly chapter meetings, resources and industry news provided by the association, networking events as well as numerous training opportunities throughout the year.
"This will be a great opportunity for those just entering their automotive career to become a part of the best Personal Learning Network (PLN) out there," said Tim Dwyer, automotive technology instructor at Oklahoma State University’s Institute of Technology, "Thank you for understanding the need to start building this relationship between students and industry early."
This free membership opportunity is available to students currently enrolled in a high school, vo-tech or college automotive technology programs within Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas or Oklahoma.
