Dealership Body Shops Growing Again, Says Crain’s Detroit Business

Percentage of dealerships with body shops grew to 36 percent in 2013 from 34 percent in 2012.

According to a report from Crain’s Detroit Business, the number of dealerships with body shops are once again on the rise after plummeting from 41 percent in 2006 to 34 percent in 2012.

Last year saw a slight rise to 36 percent, and Dan Risley, president of the Automotive Service Association, predicts the number of dealerships with body shops will rise in the future, according to the Crain’s story. The increasing sophistication of vehicles will require expensive training and tooling, Risley told Crain’s, and manufacturers will make those things available to their dealers first.
