I-CAR Features Expanded Interactive Training Opportunities at NACE/CARS

Array of interactive educational opportunities will be offered July 31 through Aug. 2 in Detroit.

I-CAR has released its expanded NACE/CARS training schedule. An array of interactive educational opportunities will be offered July 31 through Aug. 2 in Detroit.

The course schedule with descriptions is as follows:

July 31, 2014

8 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Steering and Suspension Damage Analysis presented by David Solmes

Proper alignment serves as the foundation for many important vehicle systems. If collision-related damage is not identified up-front, systems such as steering, suspension and electronic stability control can be greatly compromised. Understanding damage analysis considerations before the repair can help ensure quality and consumer safety, as well as serve as a catalyst in improving key performance indicators (KPIs) like cycle time and customer service index (CSI) scores.
* This class meets I-CAR Professional Development Program requirements for ProLevel 2 Estimators and Auto Physical Damage Appraisers.

8 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Full-Frame Partial Replacement presented by Mark Bono

Properly repairing today’s full-frame vehicles requires command of an array of considerations. Understanding OEM repair procedures and welding requirements for full-frame vehicles can be key, but being able to identify full-frame designs, partial replacement options and repair considerations for full-frame attachments is also critical to achieving a complete, safe and quality repair. Completion of this course will be beneficial to repairers and their respective businesses. Full-frame partial replacement can result in increased savings for the shop and the vehicle owner alike. The content in this course can be applied on the job immediately following completion.
* This class meets I-CAR Professional Development Program requirements for ProLevel 3 Steel Structural Technicians, or Annual Training for Estimators and Auto Physical Damage Appraisers.

1 – 5 p.m.: Advanced Steering and Suspension Systems Damage Analysis presented by Mark Bono

Advanced steering and suspension systems are increasingly popular in today’s modern vehicles and many of us depend on them to keep our vehicles driving smoothly. If not repaired properly, other vehicle systems can be compromised, resulting in more damage. Every individual involved in the repair process is a stakeholder, so knowing what to look for pre-repair, how to execute the repair and what to check post-repair impacts everyone involved – from the estimator, to the business, to the consumer. This interactive course provides important information on the considerations for inspecting steering and suspension systems and provides knowledge that can lead to increased efficiency gains and a positive customer experience – both of which are critical to business performance.
* This class meets I-CAR PDP requirements for ProLevel 3 Estimators and Auto Physical Damage Appraisers, and Annual Training for Steel Structural Technicians.

1 – 5 p.m.: Sectioning of Steel Unitized Structures presented by Michael Hoeneise

Today’s vehicles are being introduced with new technology and construction materials that are more advanced and lighter weight than ever, which means repair procedures from previous generation vehicle models do not necessarily apply to current models. For repairers, this demands an understanding of proper sectioning techniques and up-to-date knowledge on new vehicle designs that can impact sectioning decisions. Understanding these important considerations can be the difference between a complete and safe repair and possibly compromising passenger safety. This course prepares technicians with the information they need to make proper decisions for sectioning. The student will receive an overview of sectioning that includes classroom activities, props, and demonstrations that illustrate detailed information on sectioning preparation and joint types. This course also explains where procedures are found and why general sectioning guidelines no longer apply.
* This class meets I-CAR Professional Development Program requirements for ProLevel 3 Steel Structural Technicians, and Annual Training for Estimators and Auto Physical Damage Appraisers.

Aug. 1, 2014

8 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Vehicle Technology and Trends 2014 presented by Mark Bono

Enhanced vehicle technology, lightweight construction materials and safety aids continue to gain ground as fuel economy standards evolve and technology continues to advance. Many of these new features and conveniences will soon be standard in new-model vehicles. For repairers, these changes require knowledge and commands of new technology and trends. This I-CAR course provides an "auto show view” of vehicles that will soon be commonplace in many repair facilities and delivers information that technicians need to get ahead of the curve.
* This class meets I-CAR Professional Development Program requirements for New Technology or Annual Training for all roles.

8 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Aluminum Exterior Panel Repair and Replacement presented by David Solmes

Should an aluminum exterior panel be repaired or replaced? It depends! There are many considerations to take into account when making decisions on aluminum panels. Being able to properly assess damage and repair or replace exterior panels requires understanding the properties, characteristics, design and construction of aluminum. Making the right decisions at the right time can play a role in improving KPIs like cycle time and CSI. Premiering to the industry at NACE, students will leave this course equipped to tackle this different, not difficult, material.
* This class meets I-CAR Professional Development Program requirements for ProLevel 3 Non-Structural Technicians and Annual Training for Estimators and Auto Physical Damage Appraisers.

1 – 5 p.m.: Hazardous Materials, Personal Safety and Refinish Safety presented by Michael Hoeneise

Understanding the many components of working safely in a repair facility can greatly impact business performance. Identifying specific procedures that can prevent injuries, understanding the correct methods for storage and disposal of hazardous materials and waste, as well as recognizing the proper personal protective equipment can each play a role in creating a safe and efficient workplace.
* This class meets I-CAR Professional Development Program requirements for ProLevel 1 for all roles except Auto Physical Damage appraisers, who can use it to meet their Annual Training requirements.

Aug. 2, 2014

8 a.m. – 5 p.m.: 2015 Ford F-150 Structural Repair Training Course presented by Mark Bono

Collision repair training experts at I-CAR worked alongside Ford Motor Company engineers during the 2015 Ford F-150 design and development process, leveraging I-CAR’s expertise to create a training solution for collision repair professionals who will work on the next generation of Ford’s extremely popular truck. Two years of development culminates in the 2015 Ford F-150 Structural Repair course that covers all topics on aluminum, and dives deep into vehicle-specific repair information. This instructor-led course uses discussion, high-definition videos, animations and detailed graphics to equip technicians to properly repair the 2015 F-150.
* This class is required as part of the Ford National Body Shop Program.
** This class meets I-CAR Professional Development Program requirements for ProLevel 2 Aluminum Structural Technician, New Technology for Steel Structural Technicians, and Annual Training for Estimators and Auto Physical Damage Appraisers.
