ASA Asks Massachusetts Legislature to Stop Right to Repair Legislation

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is asking Massachusetts
repairers to contact their legislators about opposing the Right to
Repair Act, Massachusetts H.B. 4892. ASA said that "legislation using
government agencies and the courts is unnecessary to ensure independent
repairers have access to the same service information that is available
to dealers."

The ASA-Automaker voluntary agreement assures a process for repairers
to obtain service information, tool information and training, according
to ASA. The organization believes that since independent repairers have
access to vehicle service information via third-party information
providers and automaker Web sites, they do not need the intervention of
government agencies or courts.

ASA has sent a letter to Massachusetts repairers regarding this issue
and said the bill could “force more costs and marketplace uncertainty
for independent repairers.” To view a pre-written letter to
legislators, visit www.takingthehill.com and click on "Current Alerts."
