The Washington Metropolitan Auto Body Association (WMABA) announced that repairers should be on alert that Senate Bill 193, filed Jan. 4th, would amend the appraisals section (38.2-510 17.) of the unfair claim settlement practices code to essentially allow for the use of digital photographs in lieu of physically seeing the vehicle to make the final repair appraisal.
The association believes the bill will open the door to abuse by insurers and third-party interests in arbitrary reduction in prices, capping of costs and after-the-repair adjustments without ever having seen the vehicle.
The WMABA is working to get a meeting with Senator Richard H. Stuart to discuss the consumer implications of short pay, either when they get their vehicle repaired or take the cash option.
