Free Certification Offered for Designated Paint Suppliers

March 1st will mark the first five-year recertification deadline for automotive paint stripping and surface coating shop owners since the initial compliance date of Jan. 10, 2011.

In appreciation of regulatory data exchange with prominent paint suppliers, GRC-Pirk Management announced that it will provide complimentary certification for FinishMaster, AkzoNobel, Sherwin-Williams, and BASF Jobbers and shop owners to comply with EPA’s National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants and Greenhouse Gas disclosure (CO2 & NOx emissions) under the Clean Air Act.

“We are honored to provide this service via our authorized agents, compliments of the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program, to e-commerce connected Jobbers and their customers, so they can attain the necessary NESHAP 6H compliance and Carbon Footprint disclosure requirements prior to the March 1st deadline,” said Bill Kernahan, president of Bonding Solutions.

March 1st will mark the first five-year recertification deadline for automotive paint stripping and surface coating shop owners since the initial compliance date of Jan. 10, 2011. To assist the more than 30,000 collision repair facilities subject to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) paint stripping and spray coating laws, the government has posted an online NESHAP 6H Example Form where shop owners can download a sample certification from the EPA Technology Transfer Network (TTN) website.

“Many collision shop operators and even some regulatory inspectors are confused about the obligations regarding painter training and paint product documentation required under the Code of Federal Regulations NESHAP 6H law published January 10, 2006,” said Steven Schillinger, administrator of the Green Garage Challenge. “Most shop owners have either forgotten or were never informed that a five-year refresher training statute for painters and/or product conversion requires an amendment to their initial EPA notification and paint booth permit to operate.”

The EPA recently alerted all 10 EPA regional offices to begin enforcing the NESHAP 40 CFR Part 63 Subpart HHHHHH five-year refresher training law. All collision shops in the U.S. are obligated to meet this law no later than March 1, 2016 or be subject to a fine of up to $35,000 per day.
