A report from Bloomberg indicates that nearly 50 percent of pot-smoking Canadian drivers say that they can safely operate a vehicle while stoned.

Bloomberg cited a report from State Farm that showed 44 percent of Canadians who have driven under the influence of marijuana don’t think it impacts their ability to drive safely. Approximately 42 percent acknowledged a difference and 14 percent said they don’t know.

“We know marijuana impairs judgment and reaction time,” John Bordignon, a spokesman for State Farm, told Bloomberg. “So any move to legalize it has to be matched with safeguards to discourage drivers from getting behind the wheel while they are influenced by it.”
