The California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) recently got up to speed on how sophisticated vehicles are becoming thanks to a presentation by Gene Lopez, director of development and training for Seidner’s Collision Centers.

At a July 12 advisory group meeting, Lopez educated the members of BAR, who serve Californians through effective regulation of the automotive repair and smog check industry, on new vehicle technology and OEM position statements.

“Because of advancements in metallurgy, we now have these ultra-high-strength steels and advanced high-strength steels,” said Lopez. “And if we’re knowledgeable enough, we look at what type of metals we’re working with, and there is a definite description of tensile strength in these metals. If we’re informed and we’ve looked at the info given to us, there are some metals we can cut and ones we cannot cut, and we have to know this.”

Lopez also referenced the John Eagle Collision Center lawsuit and explained the details of the case.
