Roy Rogers Body Shop was founded in 1954 by Rufus Elton “Roy” Rogers in Laurel, Miss. Roy got his nickname from his wife, Betty, who he met in Glasgow, Scotland during World War II. She gave him the nickname in honor of Roy Rogers, the “King of Cowboys” who had an illustrious career as an American singer, actor, television host and rodeo performer. One year after it was founded, Roy Rogers moved to a new building on Mason Street and continued to expand. In 1979, Roy and his son, Thomas, moved the shop to an even larger facility with special buildings for paint and refinish, body and framework, and offices. This body shop has been a “hero” to motorists throughout Laurel ever since.
