Caliber Collision Centers Donates Recycled Ride to Single Mother of Cancer Patient

Vanessa Daum, a single mother of a small boy diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, received some holiday cheer on Dec. 23 at Caliber Collision Centers’ Riverside location, when she took possession of a refurbished 2006 Honda CRV donated by Caliber.

Vanessa is a single parent of four sons and faces the incredible challenge of getting weekly treatment for her youngest son, Kaysin, by riding the bus to and from Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. Kaysin was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in June 2011 and is now an outpatient requiring weekly visits to the hospital for chemotherapy and doctor check-ups.

“We believe that the Daum family deserves a little holiday cheer this season, not only for Vanessa and Kaysin, but also for the three other boys in the family who need reliable transportation to and from school and other activities,” said David Goldstein, VP – Operations.

In partnership with the Walters Automotive Group and Caliber Collision Centers associates and vendor partners, the like-new 2006 Honda CRV was gifted to Vanessa and her family at the Caliber Riverside center.

“We are honored to be a part of this touch of holiday cheer in concert with Caliber Collision Centers to help out a needy family like the Daum’s who deserve a break in today’s difficult economy where so many people simply can’t afford reliable transportation,” said Cathy Kienle, Foundation Director of Walters Automotive Group.

“Reliable transportation for the Daum Family is so important so Kaysin can continue to receive treatment on his path to recovery with the help of our outstanding physicians and staff,” said Jen Cruikshank, Chief Patient Care Director, Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital.

“Our goal with the Caliber Recycled Rides program is to give back to the communities we serve as we restore our customers to the rhythm of their lives each and every day. This gifting at Caliber’s Riverside center is just the first of many Recycled Rides that Caliber plans to donate over the next 12 months across California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas,” said Michael Quinn, VP – Industry and Community Relations.
