Custom Ford Fairlane Garners $1 Million for Charity at Barrett-Jackson

Sometimes the sequel is better than the original. This turned out to be the case when at this year’s annual Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson auto auction, when a custom 1964 Ford Fairlane sold for a cool $1 million for charity.

Sometimes the sequel is better than the original. This turned out to be the case when at this year’s annual Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson auto auction, when a custom 1964 Ford Fairlane sold for a cool $1 million for charity.

The same car, owned by Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis, had been previously auctioned off for $700,000 at Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas auction back in September (the car was then donated back by its buyer so it could be sold again). In both cases, all the funds raised ($1.7 million total) went to the Armed Forces Foundation, a national non-profit organization that provides support for wounded service members and their families. Additionally, Barrett-Jackson waived its commissions on the transaction, as it has on all charity sales in recent years.

Boldly painted in the striking "Red Hot Chili Pepper" hue from the Sherwin-Williams Planet Color Barrett-Jackson Collector Color Series, the car was escorted onto the stage by a Marine color guard, as thousands in the audience cheered and waved American flags.

"It was really one of the most special moments ever at Barrett-Jackson," Davis said. "It’s important that people understand – this is not scripted; this is not made up. This really is happening. It epitomizes the culture of car collecting and the big-hearted people who are a part of it."

The car underwent hundreds of hours of restoration and detailing. It features a Roush Performance 427IR, 8-stack fuel injection 560-hp engine with a torque of 540 ft.-lbs. and a Tremec TKO 6 speed.

The Sherwin-Williams Planet Color Barrett-Jackson Collector Color series is a line of optically enhanced automotive paints containing special combinations of highly reflective additives. The color, "Red Hot Chili Pepper" (#PCFP2), is one of 25 colors in the factory package, custom paint line.
