PPG Launches ‘Paint It’ Online Color Identification and Selection Tool

PPG Automotive Refinish has introduced Paint It, a Web-based application to help collision centers find the most current automotive color information for domestic and import vehicles. This tool signals a new approach from PPG, making color identification and selection in the automotive refinish process easier and more accurate.

“Paint It is a departure from past methods for finding the right color for a given vehicle,” said Mary Kimbro, PPG global color director. “It’s designed to be intuitive for auto industry professionals who typically use a variety of color identification tools. Distributors, collision shop owners, paint technicians and even hobbyists looking to identify a vehicle’s color can use this tool by simply going to the Paint It application and doing an easy search. Finding the right color is now straightforward, and the refinish process is much simpler and faster.”

Paint It is accessible through www.ppgpaintit.com with no special software required for the application. Users can search for a vehicle’s color information by year, model, color family, finish effect or usage. Digital representations of body and non-body colors are displayed onscreen to aid in the color visualization process, with images and data linked together for quick search results. The range of graphical views allows the user to sort and organize information with ease.

In addition to exterior colors, Paint It also identifies accent, interior, under-hood, wheel and trim colors, allowing paint technicians to verify all the necessary color components at one time prior to beginning the repair. Once the correct color is identified, users are a click away from formula retrieval via the PPG Online Color Formulation tool.

According to Kimbro, early user response to Paint It has been positive. “Customers are telling us Paint It is very easy to use and extremely helpful. Paint It proves that finding accurate information quickly doesn’t have to be that hard.”
