The Automotive Management Institute (AMI) is accepting applications for the following five scholarships to be awarded this year: the Emil Stanley Merit Award, the BodyShop Business Magazine Scholarship, the Richard Cossette/Gale Westerlund Memorial Scholarship, the Tom B. Babcox Memorial Scholarship and the Arrowhead Specialty Markets “High Octane” Scholarship.
Three scholarships will help pay expenses for recipients to attend the 2014 International Autobody Congress & Exposition (NACE) in Detroit, July 30 through Aug. 2. These scholarships are the Emil Stanley Merit Award, the BodyShop Business Magazine Scholarship and the Richard Cossette/Gale Westerlund Memorial Scholarship.
The $1,000 Emil Stanley Merit Award is awarded annually to an individual who works in an Automotive Service Association (ASA) Collision Division member-business in good standing and displays a desire to improve their business skills through management education. The 2014 award marks the 24th year in which AMI and ASA have honored Emil Stanley with this commemorative management-oriented scholarship.
The $1,000 BodyShop Business Magazine Scholarship is also presented annually. AMI’s resource development effort, EXCEL, in conjunction with Babcox Media, established the scholarship that is awarded to an ASA Collision Division member-business in good standing who displays a desire to improve their business skills through management education.
The $1,000 Richard Cossette/Gale Westerlund Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an ASA Collision Division member-business in good standing who displays a desire to improve their business skills through management education. The scholarship offered in conjunction with ASA was created to honor the contributions these two industry leaders made to AMI, ASA and the collision repair industry.
NACE is sponsored by ASA and features an educational conference offering AMI-approved management seminars, technical courses and industry sessions. The expo has hundreds of exhibiting companies displaying the latest equipment, products, services and technology available to today’s collision repair industry.
The remaining two annual scholarships help cover expenses for recipients to attend the Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS) in Detroit, July 31 through Aug. 2. These scholarships are the Tom B. Babcox Memorial Scholarship and the Arrowhead Specialty Markets “High Octane” Scholarship.
The $1,000 Tom B. Babcox Memorial Scholarship was established by EXCEL, in conjunction with Babcox Media. It is awarded to an ASA Mechanical Division member-business in good standing who displays a desire to improve their business skills through management education.
The $1,000 Arrowhead Specialty Markets “High Octane” Scholarship was established by EXCEL, in conjunction with Arrowhead’s Specialty Markets. It is awarded to an ASA Mechanical Division member-business in good standing who displays a desire to improve their business skills through management education.
CARS, also sponsored by ASA, features an educational lineup led by industry leaders, along with an exhibitor showcase of automotive service and repair-related equipment, products and services.
Along with NACE/CARS, a series of automotive repair industry events and co-located meetings will take place July 28 through Aug. 2, 2014. Early in the week, there will be a series of board and other private meetings. The CIC quarterly meeting will be held on Tuesday.
