The 11th Annual Race For Automotive Education is slated for Jan. 15-16, 2013, at ProKart Indoor Racing in Burnsville, Minn. The event, sponsored by the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers, Minnesota (AASP-MN), serves as the primary fundraiser for the AASP-MN Automotive Education Fund, which provides financial resources to automotive students, enhances automotive programs and raise awareness of career opportunities in the automotive service industry.
Since its inception, the fund has disbursed nearly $129,000 directly to students enrolled in automotive programs through the association’s scholarship program and SkillsUSA competition. This year’s event is expected to raise more than $7,500.
AASP-MN members and other industry supporters will organize teams to compete in kart racing at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. The majority of the donated money will fund scholarships for students entering the second year of a two-year, NATEF-certified automotive program (collision or mechanical) in the state of Minnesota. Scholarship awards will be distributed in the fall of 2013.
