ESAB Announces Major Wind Energy Industry Order

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products announced its largest ever, single-customer order for welding and cutting equipment and consumables. The multi-million dollar order was placed by the wind tower manufacturer, Vestas Towers A/S, a part of Vestas Wind Systems A/S.

ESAB will supply the complete equipment and consumables package, and the full order comprises automated cutting equipment manufactured by ESAB in Florence, North Carolina, heavy automation welding equipment manufactured by ESAB in Sweden and positioning and handling equipment supplied by ESAB’s newly acquired facility in Singapore.

The Column and Boom equipment will include ESAB’s latest telescopic technology, which uses less factory floor space, offering customers significant productivity and capital outlay advantages. In addition, ESAB is very well positioned to supply the welding consumables once the wind tower factory comes into production. This significant win demonstrates ESAB’s competitive advantage in this growing market segment.

According to Nazmi Adams, global marketing director for ESAB Holdings, the company won the business due to its long-standing relationships with leading wind tower manufacturers, its ability to develop customized engineering solutions, its global footprint, as well as being the only welding and cutting company able to supply the complete product range. This allows for a one-stop project offer and reduces the customer’s factory set-up risks.

The full equipment package will be delivered and installed during 2009.
