Seven Fix Auto repair center locations participated this year in Recycled Rides, a national program sponsored by the National Auto Body Council (NABC) through which body shops repair and donate refurbished vehicles to families and service organizations in need. Because of their efforts, seven families were able to get back on the road, part of the over 150 vehicles donated by the program in 2011.
In Escondido, Oceanside and Riverside, Calif., and in Denver, Colo., Fix Auto donated cars through Operation Homefront, an organization providing emergency financial and other assistance to military families and wounded warriors.
In Pasadena, Calif., Fix Auto donated a vehicle through Foothill Unity Center, a major source of food, health services and crisis assistance for over 4,000 low-income families in its service area.
In Portland, Ore., Fix Auto gave away a car to a family with a sick child at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, ranked among the nation’s top 50 children’s hospitals in eight specialties.
Fix Auto will be gifting the final car to an Operation Homefront family in Santee, California mid-January, 2012.
In an attempt to drive community involvement, Fix Auto ran local public service announcements about the program. The PSAs directed individuals who wanted to get involved to the Fix Auto USA Facebook page for more information. Fix Auto locations in the participating markets volunteered to serve as drop-off sites for toys, gift cards and other donations.
"Our franchisees did an excellent job of not only preparing the vehicles, but providing a top notch giveaway experience. In some cases, the families walked away with gas cards, car seats, toys and car insurance," said Fix Auto President and COO Paul Gange. "We are honored to participate in this program and we hope to expand our participation to include even more cars next year."
