I-CAR to Launch Aluminum Panel Repair and Replacement Course

Course will provide in-depth information on the array of important considerations to take into account when making decisions on aluminum panels.

I-CAR will soon launch its all-new instructor-led course, Aluminum Panel Repair and Replacement (APR01). This course provides in-depth information – backed by in-class student activities – on the array of important considerations to take into account when making decisions on aluminum panels. Attendees at NACE July 30-Aug. 2 will have the opportunity to take the course before it’s open to the industry on Aug. 25. Registration is still open.

“Being able to properly assess damage and repair or replace exterior panels requires understanding the properties, characteristics, design and construction of aluminum," said Josh McFarlin, I-CAR director of curriculum and product development. "Making the right decisions at the right time can play a role in improving KPIs like cycle time and CSI.”

During the course, students will participate in group activities to help reinforce learning and engagement as they receive instruction on techniques to remove damage. Some of the techniques will include hammer and dolly use, using heat with aluminum, paintless dent repair (PDR), weld-on and glue-on dent removal, and preventing corrosion. Students will also receive demonstrations and explanations of several panel attachment and removal methods, as well as information on preparation and application. Aluminum welding considerations such as welding tears and dressing the weld will also be covered.

“The course will prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed to work on aluminum – a different, not difficult, material," McFarlin said.

This instructor-led, live three-credit hour course meets training requirements for Non-Structural Technicians, Estimators and Auto Physical Damage Appraisers in I-CAR’s Professional Development Program (PDP).
