Sam Berg, a blacksmith, and Gus Steen, a painter, met while working at Barry’s Carriage Repair and decided to start their own business. Thus was born the Steen & Berg Company in 1916 in Fargo, North Dakota. Steen died in 1949, and Berg bought the business and name from the Steen’s widow. Karl and Kevin Berg, the third generation, are now running the business.
