Abaris Training Launches Advanced Material Structural Repair Course

Course designed to meet increasing demand for automotive carbon fiber reinforced plastics composite repair.

Abaris Training of Reno, Nev., is unveiling a new course titled “Advanced Composite Automotive Structural Repair-2,” (course code R-14) a five-day, hands-on intensive workshop exclusively designed to teach the fundamentals of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) composite repair and introduce specific materials, methods and techniques employed by the automotive industry. The course will be offered twice in 2014: July 21-25 and Nov. 10-14.

The new course is intended to be a follow-up to Abaris’ most popular course, titled “Advanced Composite Structures: Fabrication & Damage Repair-Phase 1”  (course code R-1). The Phase 1 course is prerequisite to the R-14 Auto Repair 2 course and contains newly added curriculum designed to highlight materials and methods currently used by automotive manufacturers in producing high-rate CFRP structures. The Phase 1 course runs monthly at the Reno facility.

This course is designed to attract both engineers and technicians from OEMs, dealerships, auto body repair shops and various other peripheral organizations as they prepare to meet the needs of the future.

“Those with the foresight will want to get their technicians up to speed as quickly as possible, so as to be first to offer these capabilities to their customers,” said Lou Dorworth, manager of Abaris’ Direct Services Division.

Plans include expanding the program to include a future, more advanced, Auto Repair-3 course, much like the company’s aerospace composite repair program. Abaris is working closely with the OEMs in developing manufacturer-specific or vehicle-specific training programs as needed.
