Babcox Media announced it is adding industry veteran Donny Seyfer to its staff as a regular columnist for Brake & Front End, Underhood Service and ImportCar.

Seyfer is the co-owner of Seyfer Automotive Inc. in Wheat Ridge, Colo., and has more than 40 years of automotive experience as a technician, manager and service consultant. Seyfer is an ASE master and L1 Advanced Diagnostic Certified technician, ASE Certified Service consultant, AMI Accredited automotive manager, and a two-time NAPA/ASE Regional Technician of the Year. He also is the current Automotive Service Association chairman.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue sharing my passion by contributing to Babcox Media,” Seyfer said. “I have never found a group of people I respect more than those who repair cars. Our customers don’t truly understand the knowledge and skill required to do what we do. Lending my specific skill set to helping those folks makes every day a good day.”

Seyfer will be exploring automotive technology issues and how they will impact shops both now and in the future. He will be looking at how shops, scan tools and vehicles connect to the Internet and the implications this has on cyber security. Seyfer will also forecast how shifting technologies might help technicians and shop owners better connect with customers in the coming years through their vehicles’ telematics systems.

“We need to take the security inside our facilities seriously. Over the next few months, I am going to show you the amazing technologies present in cars today, how to prepare for the cars of tomorrow and help you properly secure your shop in the modern cyber world in which we live,” Seyfer said.

“We are pleased to welcome Donny to the Tech Group team. His knowledge of telematics and technology issues confronting the auto care industry will be an asset to Brake & Front End, ImportCar and Underhood Service,” said Jim Merle, group publisher, Babcox Media. “As a successful shop owner who has experience in the bays, behind the counter and with many trade associations, Donny’s expertise and prominence in the market will make him a valuable asset to our team.”
