Axalta Coating Systems announced that its fifth annual Winter Panel Jam will feature pinstriping artwork produced on site and live by a host of renowned artists. The event will take place in Long Beach, Calif., at a new Universal Technical Institute (UTI) campus on Feb. 1-2.

The Winter Panel Jam attracts artists who specialize in custom pattern work, airbrushed murals, gold leaf and pinstriping. The artists will use Axalta’s Cromax basecoats and clearcoats and Hot Hues candy dyes and pinstripe colors to create custom art on hoods, miniature car bodies and pedal cars. Participating artists will compete to have their artwork named “best-in-show.” The winning design will be awarded the recently unveiled “We Paint Winners” Radiant Red Commemorative SATAjet 5000 B spray gun.

“The event brings together a group of talented artists to collaborate, learn from and teach each other, and ultimately create some fantastic artwork that Axalta will display at custom car shows across the country throughout the year,” said Harry Christman, Axalta Cromax brand manager. “We’re happy to give these students an opportunity to connect with the industry’s best. The first few years we did this at our Pomona, Calif., Learning and Development Center. Last year, we decided to engage the trade school community by holding the event at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College in downtown Los Angeles. This year, we chose to work with UTI to celebrate our growing relationship, help promote the school’s capabilities and to expose their students to this very unique aspect of automotive paint.”

The event schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, Feb. 1, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 2, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
