Teen Driver Sued, Now Faces Criminal Charges Over Alleged Use of Snapchat

On September 10, 2015, Christal McGee was attempting to get over 100 mph on Snapchat’s speed filter and failed to notice a car pulling onto the Georgia highway she was speeding on.

ABC News has reported that the Georgia teenager who was involved in a car crash while allegedly using the speed filter on Snapchat now faces multiple charges and is at the center of a lawsuit.

An arrest warrant was issued June 2nd by a judge in Clayton County, Ga., for Christal McGee, 19. On September 10, 2015, McGee was attempting to get over 100 mph on Snapchat’s speed filter and failed to notice a car pulling onto the Georgia highway she was speeding on. At around 11:15 p.m., McGee struck a Mitsubishi Outlander at 107 mph on a road with a speed limit of 55.

McGee has been charged with reckless driving, super speeder, driving too fast for conditions and serious injury by vehicle, a felony.

The driver of the Mitsubishi Outlander, Wentworth Maynard, and his family have filed a lawsuit against both McGee and Snapchat, claiming negligence and hardship.

Maynard endured a five-week stay at a hospital and now suffers from permanent brain damage. His lawyer claims he has lost 50 pounds, requires a wheelchair to get around and cannot work to support himself.
