Omaha Auto Body Shops Busy After Storm Drops Baseball-Size Hail

Auto body shops and insurers in Omaha, Neb., have been flooded with claims and repairs after a June 29 storm dropped baseball-size hail on the region.

Auto body shops and insurers in Omaha, Neb., have been flooded with claims and repairs after a June 29 storm dropped baseball-size hail on the region.

Metro Glass owner Rich Lutton told KETV 7 in Omaha that his phone started ringing as soon as the store opened the morning after the storm.

“It’s a really serious situation,” Lutton told KETV 7. “It’s widespread, pretty severe damage to all the vehicles and everyone wants to get in as soon as they can.”

Because of the backlog of repairs, Lutton said the shop was putting plastic over some customers’ windows “so they can at least use the cars and they don’t get further damage.”

State Farm agent Renee Reding told KETV 7 that the insurer was setting up a drive-through, where people can make an appointment to have an adjuster look at their vehicle.
