Allstate Insurance Company filed with the Massachusetts Division of Insurance on Monday to re-enter the Massachusetts auto insurance market a little more than a year after managed competition for insurers was established in the state. Allstate has targeted Nov. 2, 2009 as its “open-for-business” date.
“The Division of Insurance has strong consumer protections in place as part of the transition to managed competition, and will now review Allstate’s filing to make sure it meets those protections,” Insurance Commissioner Nonnie S. Burnes said.
Allstate is the 11th insurer to enter the Massachusetts market since managed competition was implemented in April 2008. Two major insurers, Progressive and GEICO, have entered the market since last year.
“People are looking for value and choice,” said George Ruebenson, president of Allstate Protection. “As a company with a solid reputation and a national presence, Allstate will provide Massachusetts consumers with additional automobile insurance choices from an established insurance provider.”
