Walker’s Automotive, a Knoxville-based automotive company, partnered with Studio Four Design, a Knoxville architecture and design firm, to build a distinctive building design that provides a unique experience to customers and insurance companies. The 50,000-square-foot auto body shop in Knoxville, Tenn., differentiates itself from typical auto shops with its comfortable, inviting and warm atmosphere.

“When we decided to start this project, we knew we wanted a partner to help bring our lifelong vision into a reality,” said Paul Walker, founder and CEO of Walker’s Automotive Collision Repair. “Studio Four Design came to us highly recommended. Their architects and designers have a great reputation throughout the industry, and their work impressed us. But it was their commitment to our vision and communicating every detail with us that made the relationship so fruitful.”

The layout of the building was designed with customers and insurance companies in mind – creating a space with intuitive design and furnished in a modern yet functional fashion. The shop gets most of its referrals from insurance companies that want to refer clients to a modern, state-of-the-art auto shop. While auto shops can feel dirty, cramped and poorly lit, Studio Four Design worked with Merit Construction to add large windows for natural light, to benefit both customers and mechanics.

The interior maintains the modern look with sleek white walls and polished concrete floors. Studio Four’s design team installed state-of-the-art lighting to help create a warm experience for Walker’s customers. To better serve the technicians, the workspace was also expanded for specific functions.

“Paul understands the importance of building design and how it affects his customers,” said Stacy Cox, president and director of business development at Studio Four Design. “We worked truly as partners to bring to life the experience Paul envisioned with intuitive design features.”

Walker added, “The clean and efficient design has increased our number of insurance referrals. Even our mechanics comment on how easy it is to maneuver the tools now and how inviting the whole shop feels.”

Walker has begun planning another automotive collision repair location in the Knoxville area. He aims to work with Studio Four Design and has a 2017 projected opening date.
